A Busy Summer in Savannah...

Since my last post, the new SABHC (Savannah Area Behavioral Health Collaborative) building opened at the J.C. Lewis Health Center. Youth volunteers and everyone at Union Mission have been working hard all summer to open the building. It is now open as a state-of-the-art facility, and around 150 clients are there every day. Many of the youth volunteers will recognize and appreciate the picture of the overgrown back fence they worked on. Thanks to everyone's hard work, it looks great!

Also, this past week we had around 100 people here at Union Mission from the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly. They were here to learn from our work as a non-profit business in order to train them as leaders within their own company. Aleta and I are pictured with a large group of the volunteers who took Homelessness 101. They then ate a delicious lunch catered by the Starfish cafe.

The group pictured with stuffed animals was here last week, and they worked really hard, especially in the Magdalene Children's Garden. Every group has worked hard this summer to help Union Mission prevent and end homelessness here in Savannah, GA.

Teri Schell, our Arts Coordinator, has overseen the Children's Garden. Her work with the Growing Hope Artisans Cooperative helps those fighting homelessness express themselves. She has shared an office this summer with Brett McCarty, who is interning with Union Mission. They have been all over the city of Savannah working on projects at various Union Mission facilities.
